Tom Fowler is a retired Commander in the United States Naval Reserve.  He renders his expertise and his 40 years experience with Fortune 500 companies including, General Electric Company, The Trane Company, and American Standard, Inc., as well as business school teaching at the SMU Cox School of Management.  

Tom’s professional experience is focused on both domestic and international human resources recruiting, staffing and compensation management. Mr. Fowler has managed executive search and outplacement programs for executive, professional, and clerical employees for Fortune 500 companies.  He developed and delivered numerous corporate training and development programs including process re-engineering and demand-flow manufacturing.

Additionally, Tom managed virtually all human resources functions in large and small manufacturing operations (unionized and non-unionized).

Tom is an expert in conducting job analysis and job classifications studies for jobs in public and private sectors. He received extensive training in “Hay Group Methodology” on Job Analysis, as well as the General Electric Performance Evaluation Methodology.

One of the projects completed successfully by Tom, with UM Global HR’s principal consultants was the recruitment and job analysis technical assistance for Northern Arizona Intergovernmental Public Transportation Authority (NAIPTA). He played a pivotal role in obtaining insights on processes and procedures of strategic recruitment.

Tom has served as an Adjunct Professor in the Organizational Behavior and Business Planning Department in the Edwin L. Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University, where he taught Negotiations.  He delivered numerous seminars in Human Resources Management for The Cox School’s Executive Development Program and is a member of the Associate Board and mentors MBA students.  He served as an Assistant Professor at Vanderbilt University, teaching courses in Naval Engineering and Leadership. He was awarded the Independent Recruiters Group (IRG) 2003 Community Service Award for outstanding volunteer service to the Dallas community, including a monetary award which he donated to the Cox School Career Management Center.

Thomas Fowler received his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from Auburn University and his Master of Arts degree in Economics from Vanderbilt University.
